I suspect we have similar issues. I'm not entirely "face blind" but let's just say I'm severely face-myopic. Until I began the trick of choosing historic portraits as visual references for my characters, I honestly couldn't have told you what they looked like. But then, I could have lunch with someone today and not be able to tell you what they looked like tomorrow (beyond general categories of gender and broad-category ethnicity... and even that is slippery). I'm a lot better at visualizing houses and street scenes and whatnot, in part because I have to know how people move through them. And I find it easy to visualize peoples movements and actions.
